Before Christmas I happened to mention to my wife that if I had a Rock and Gem tumbler I could clean all those dirty pennies around the house. I had one under the tree yesterday and wondered if anyone could give me an idea how to use it. The directions for use are very vague.

That's great, I undestand they're good for cleaning coins but I've never used one. Let me know how you do.

They are great for cleaning clad. I had an el cheapo I have been using, but found a really nice double barrel one under the Christmas tree this year!
For the el cheapo, I would put about 20 coins in it at a time. Be sure to seperate your coins. if you put pennies in with dimes and quarters everything comes out looling like copper! So put a handful of pennies in it, fill it 1/3 the way up with warm water and 2 squirts of dawn dishwashing liquid. I also put a small handful of aquarium gravel in it and let it tumble overnight. If you need them cleaner, let them run for 24 hours. You can tumble dimes and quarters together. I usually run the nickels seperate, also.
Now that I have the Mac Daddy tumbler, I can get to cleaning all those clads I found! (I also got an ultrasonic cleaner for the better coins and jewelry, it was under the tree this year, as well)

Well congrats on the tumbler. They do a good job on the clad. I also use the fish grevel and some electric dishwasher soap. I have not tried running mine as long as Joe suggests. I may have to try that for a better clean.
For sure seperate the pennies out, and run in a different load, Beale.
