Hi, I just got an M6, and it's been a blast - even though I've only found clad coins and wheaties( along with tons of trash). I own a business in the Southend district of Charlotte. A few customers have come in my store and complained about people digging up the planting strip in the Dilworth neighborhood, and have even called the cops. What's the story with this? Is this illegal? I have been detecting my yard in Merry Oaks, and the nearby school so far, as well as Carolina Beach. No one has bothered me. However, there are many sites I know of that I would like to detect. Yet, I am new to detecting and am apprehensive. What is the law in Charlotte concerning detecting?

Welcome to the forum. The M6 is an excellent machine. There's a lot to learn about the ins and outs, do's and don'ts of metal detecting. Feel free to come by and join us at one of our monthly meetings. The next one is tonight at the Matthews Community Center at 7pm. (We meet the 4th Tuesday of each month)

Thank you. I have been running it wide open in audio mode. I've heard that's the best way to really learn. I hope to make a meeting sometime. I don't close the store until 8pm, but sometimes I get a break. Tomorrow morning I'm going to Peeler's in Dallas to get a nice sharp trowel. I want to be able to make a nice cut before I go out to too many places. My wife said the front yard looks like gophers moved in, but she'll get used to it. My 6 yr. son and the dog are having fun too though.

Mr. Peeler is a great gut, I really enjoyed meeting him. I got one of those Lesch trowels, and it works great. I went out around lunch time today for an hour and pulled up seveval pennies, some nickles, a dime, as well as some trash .
