Medal?

Detecting around some huge old oak trees I dug three wheaties and this ......What looks like a medal .It took quite a bit of cleaning but I didnt want to over do it.It reads National Stove and Range,on the back Presented by Excelsior Stove Quincy Ill. National Stove and Range .
It also has what appears to be hand stamped S  A  I
The only thing I can find is the Company was awarded gold medal at Worlds Fair 1904,,,,,,,,,, This one is copper. Anyone know any thing about it ? Thanks Tim

Hey Tim,

Just doing a quick search...

Here's an invoice from Excelsior Stove in 1947.  It's in Quincy, Ill and notice the National Stove and Range Symbol on there as well:

I would say that it's either a medal or possibly a watch fob with the "S A I" being initials of the person of whom it was awarded to.

Excelsior stove did a lot of advertising on trinkets given away at big events, like the World's Fairs, at which they had exhibits.  Can't tell the size from the picture, but if it's small it's likely a watch fob.  If bigger, it's probably a medal given as a prize for a contest at one of their exhibits.

This is most definately a watch fob.  Send a picture over to the International Watch Fob Association.  They may be able to give you more info.
