Need some help.... Ian, or other bullet people.....

Can you identify the age and/or caliber of this bullet?  As you can see it's about 1 3/8 inches long and just a hair over a half inch wide.

Ian

Hey Joe,

That appears to be either a .54 or .57 caliber Enfield.  The only way to tell is the base.  Is it a solid base or is there a cavity?  If it's a cavity, is it conical or is it flat at the top?

Here's a link to help you out:

Can you take a close up pic of the base and post on here?

It has a pretty shallow cavity on the base, no lines and the top is fully rounded.

If I had to guess, based on the awesome web link you sent, it would be:

Enfield, .54 cal
Sometimes referred to as "Green Rifle"
Machine pressed with cone cavity , no grooves, tall pattern.
M&M 222, T&T143A $12.00

What do you think?

Thanks for the great info!

WTG Joe...What kind of site did you find it on?

Looks like a good guess!  This book is the end all - be all for bullets and artillery.  When referring to "M&M" numbers, this is the book that they are talking about.

Great Bullet!
