New to detecting and CharlotteHello my name is Rick and as the subject line states I'm new to detecting and Charlotte. I have a White's DFX and would love to get out and start using the machine. This would be my first hunt and could use some help. Not to mention I don't have anywhere I know or feel comfortable going. If there is someone out there who is looking for a detecting buddy that doesn't mind a newbie I'd love to hear from you!
Thanks in advance,
Rick

Welcome Rick! Sooner or later I will have another DFX classroom (in field hands on instruction on the DFX) we have a few guys that have recently bought DFX's and a few that attended the last one that could use a refresher. I'll let you know when the class will be.
In the mean time, I'll give you some tips on getting started. Are you going to come to our club meeting on the 12th?

I'd love to come to the meeting. Where and what time?
I'm going to try and go out tomorrow or over the weekend. Any suggestions on where to go?
Thanks for your help nc-joe!

We meet at the Matthews Community Center, in Matthews (of course) at 7:00pm. Our next meeting is Monday, January 12th.
The best place to "start out" is right in your own yard. It's amazing what you'll find there. I would practice your recoveries so they don't look bad before you go onto someone's property or to any parks.

That series of pictures really helps. I'm currently living in an apartment with limited "green" areas. This may sound silly but I'm nervous about searching in a park in that people may think I'm doing something wrong?

Welcome. I am a park hunter for the most part. Although the other guys here have scrubbed them clean.
The main thing I try to keep in mind is to be respectful.
I have been approched by folks and when they see me clean up after my dig they are more curious than anything.
By the way, these guys didn't get everything......

I hope they haven't found everything! I'm excited about searching and want to make sure I follow the rules. I can see how this hobby can become addictive.

Welcome to the site! Nice to have you on. I know the guys down that way will help you a bunch.
I hunt parks and schools most of the time up this way. I used to worry about what others thought, do not anymore. Just follow the MD code of ethics, and have fun, Beale.

Rick, track me down at the meeting on the 12th and we can discuss the 'rules' aka the code of ethics and how to keep MDing in the positive light.

Welcome aboard Rick; hope to see you at our next meeting. I too have a DFX and love it. It does take a bit of getting use to though, the learning curve is quite large but don't give up. Joe there is a great guy and knows the DFX, another one is Greg, if you make the meeting, make sure you meet him also. Between the two, there is nothing you can't find out about the DFX and its operation.
Looking to See You There
Henry
