Guess I should tell a little about myself. From what I've read in forum it seems like I know the rest of the group.I started metal detecting in 66 when I lived in Ky. Had a cheap machine and didn't find much,so I almost gave up the hobby. After I got out of the military I bought me a Compass with a discrimator at a pawn shop and started finding a lot of goodies and coins.I was hooked.Bought a better Compass, then in a few years tried a Whites 6000 Di.My finds improved alot.Tried a Spectrum, didn't like it,too hard to learn to use.I now have a Whites 6000 Pro XL. I'm carrying around some metal in my back, hips and legs from VietNam and getting older,so I don't get to hunt a lot now, like I used to.Sometime my son takes me out and helps me dig targets.I don't get up and down too good anymore.Still love the hobby and anything to do with it.Whether its from an easy chair reading about it or actually being out in the field. The people I've met have been a great group of people and seem to always have a new place to hunt or some good advice to offer.I live in Tnn. now and have since 81.For all the new people, always plug your holes, and carry out your trash.Leave the place looking like you had never been there.Think of the people who follow you and may not get permission to hunt there because the people before them left a bad impression of metal detectorist.Always get permission to hunt someones elses property.Don't get discouraged and put your detector in the closet. The more you use your machine, the better you will get with it. Buy the best detector you can afford,it will end up being a good investment.Hope I may be able to attend a few mettings,it would be an honor to meet some of you people.Hunt every chance you get .When you can and while you can, enjoy the hobby. You won't be sorry. If I can figure out how to put pictures on this thing I have a few for WHAT IS IT that I have been wondering about for years.HAPPY HUNTING AND BEST OF LUCK TO ALL. Rastus,
If you look up to the right side of the screen near the top you'll see FAQ. there's a lot of information on how to use all the features here.
Right on the bottom of the box I'm typing in right now is Attach File if you click on that it asks you to Browse your PC for the file when you find the picture file you want, just double click it and it will put the file name up top in a box then click upload and there you are.
Just ask if you get stuck. Most of us here can read to well and would rather look at pictures

Wecolme to the MDAC forum! We really hope someday you can make a meeting our two. If not, give us a shout, I'm sure we can muster up a few members to come to TN and spend a day or two swinging the coils!
You have great and wise advise. The future of our hobby depends on how well we represent it today. I might add, if you follow a person who does not do as they should, be the good steward of the hobby and fill their holes and remove their trash. And if at all possible, have a friendly talk with them, sometimes they really didn't think they were doing anything wrong.
As for posting pictures...... when in doubt find the youngest person you know and have them do it for you! Technology changes faster than we can ever keep up with.
By the way, I know a few others that have bounced back and forth between digital and analog machines. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. But it all comes down to personal preferance. After I learned how the digital machine worked, and how to adjust it for each location I hunt, I wouldn't go back to an analog. But on the other side of the coin, I know a few guys that just didn't like the "feel" or "sound" of the digital detector and will never swing anything buy an analog.
Hope to see you post some recent finds!
