Crap, turns out NC4 is post war and the value falls big time. Oh well, I don't feel bad about trying to clean them myself now. Here's one cleaned up. Tons of gilt left!

Aluminum Jelly is what I've always seen used.

Actually 3 90 second cycles in the ultrasonic cleaner (using hot water and Dawn dish liquid) and a quick 10 second dip in the a liquid coin/jewelry cleaner and rinse with warm water and wipe off with a soft cloth. Worked really well.
