I am curious which pin-pointer you guys and gals feel is most effective. I currently use a Whites Bulleye and have a cheaper unit as a backup. For the most part, if I locate something with my detector, I pretty much find it either in the dirt plug or the hole with my current pin-pointers. I am considering upgrading and buying a newer model in the next few weeks. I’m considering the SunRay unit that attaches to the coil rod or possibly the new Garrett Pro Pointer which is a hand held unit. Does the SunRay add much more weight to your detector? Does it seem to draw on the detector’s batteries more? I’d appreciate the insight you might provide. If there are any other units I should consider, please let me know. What do most MDAC Club Members use?
Thanks,

Once you use the SunRay, you will find it VERY hard to go back to a hand held. There really is no more battery draw, since all you are doing is switching coils from the regular coil to the 1" coil on the probe. The best thing about the SunRays are they work off the detector, so if you open the plug an check the hole with the probe with in detect mode, you hear what you would normally hear when detecting, and then you can switch over to pinpoint to find the exact location. What really sell me on the SunRay is the depth. you upto 4" on the probe where most handhelds you need to be 1/2 to 1 inch before it will pick up the target.
If you are serious about buying a new SunRay probe, PM me and I will give the details on our relationship with Clyde at Relic Hunter Supply in SC.
By the way, I have SunRay probes on both my DFX and my Explorer and I have used the bullseye pinpointer, the tiny tec and the vibraprobe 560. (I keep the tiny tec as a back up, it a great hand held!)

Hi, Curt. As far as I am concerned, you can't beat the Sunray probe. I have one on both my Whites DFX and Minelab Explorer. I used the Whites Bullseye until Joe B. put me on the Sunray and now you couldn't pay me to use anything else. The weight is negligible and it adds no additional drain on the battery. Target recovery is so much easier. You essentially have a mini-coil in your hand that responds just like the detector coil. When I first bought my Minelab, I had to wait about a week for the Sunray probe and during that week I went back to the Bullseye II probe and I felt like I was back in the stoneage! Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with the Sunray.

I wish they made a Sunray for the X-Terra! I have the new Garretts Pro pointer. Do not get me wrong I really like it. I gets decent depth 2"-2 1/2" on a coin. It is a time saver for me.
If I could put a Sun Ray on my X-Terra I would in an instant, Beale.
