Some web sites for old town maps.Didn't know if anyone has been using either of these sites or not but I have had some luck with them. Sanborn maps is at

These are very detailed maps of towns from the 19th and 20th centuries (I have found most of the towns in SC only go back to the early 20th cent.) the maps were used by insurance companies. Some are detailed to the point where they show a privy on a piece of property for those who like collecting old bottles.
The other one www.earlyamerica.com has a few good maps in the "other" section.

Hi Jamison,
Thanks for the link. I have looked at them in the library and they are awesome. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that there was no indoor plumbing in most houses here until after the 1920s. So The outhouses that the Sanborn maps show are a great resource for relics of the past.

PS: I also have found a bucket full of nails and iron bricker brac...
