Sunday Hunt

Got out for a couple of hours and hit the site I have been searching for several weeks now.   Hit two wheaties, 1944 and 1957-D.  Also hit six pennies from the early 60's.  Got two 1948 nickels, one 1940 and a 1962.  I did manage a 1967 dime too.   Including modern and the older coins the site gave me another $1.16 plus a small key and another Soy Scout neck scarf holder.   I find it hard to believe that with all of these early coins I have been hitting at this site, it has not produced a single silver dime!   Is it me and unreasonable expectations or is it the MXT?  I would love to test an Explorer at this site to see if it does any better.

Jim, Joe and/or I could try our Explorers at the site if you want.

I am happy with my finds but really believe that I am leaving the deep silver in the ground.   Interestingly I tested my MXT with the new Excelerator 4.x6 coil.  I could not lock onto a silver dime at about 6 " but had no problem going about 8" on the stock Exclipse 950 coil.  I like the 4x6 for trash isolation but am surprised by the depth variance.  Eitherway the MXT is so chatty that it masks the deep silver.  It is a super machine for copper and clad though.

I like the MXT for relic and beach hunting but am 100% sure I am going to pick up a used Explorer II or splurge for a Etrac for coin shooting.

I will try to set something up in a couple of weeks where someone with a Minelab can cover the areas I already searched and see what they can find.

A different slant

Remember Jim that deep silver most times has been there for a while. some of the silver leaches into the soil creating a halo around the coin.  Air testing is not always the best indication of the depth capabilities of a machine or coil. I was pulling small (smaller than a pushpin) copper and brass targets at 6 to 8 inches with my stock coil on my XLT. You have to walk over silver to find it.
Also remember that at 6 inches plus the detection wave gets pretty small being cone shaped. You might be just missing the silver or deeper targets.

Great job at the meeting, thanks for helping out.
