What my son just found

Hey guys, I'm a newbie on here.  I bought a couple detectors for my son and myself.  We've gone out MD'ing three times now.

Well, I talked him into going up to a church around the corner for an hour or so.

He pulled a coin out of the ground as we were leaving that was dated 1801-1809, had a picture of Thomas Jefferson on it and had the inscription:

The Author of the Declaration of Independence
Ambassador to France
Purchase or Louisiana
Something Scholar

Any ideas?

Maybe a
comemorative coin?

Tried to take a picture but my camera just won't focus in

close enough to see anything on the coin.  Got any photography tips for shooting coins?

What your son found sounds like a brass token featuring the Presidents of the U.S.  I think they were produced in the 1950's and were a series of collectibles for kids.  Thomas Jefferson was our third President and served from 1801-1809, hence the date inscription.  I have found a couple of these myself and our club President, Charlie Jones, is the one that told me about them.

I still have my set which if I get any older may be worth mo money Smile
